Breeding

breeding.jpgWe started our breeding program in 1990. After corresponding with Janet Horn, I was able to purchase a foundation bitch from the great Eastern Water’s line. She was bred in 1993 to one of the top ten Chesapeake Sires in the history of the breed, CH Chestnut Hills Stone E’s Tug. That breeding established the Snowy River Kennel. Every breeding from then on has been a combination of some of the top field and/or show lines in the nation.

All our breeding animals have been tested for and screened clear of the two major hereditary problems that affect this breed, hip dsyplasia and progressive retinal atrophy (a hereditary eye disease that eventually causes blindness). They carry OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and Cerf (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) numbers. Recently, they have been screened clear of progressive retinal atrophy by the new genetic marker test developed by OPTIGEN.
